Just a quickie post. I was feeling a bit peckish this morning after leaving my house and spied a banh cuon stand on Pham Ngoc Thach. There was a bit of a line which in my opinion bodes well for my taste buds. And it didn’t disappoint.
Banh cuon is a steamed rice pancake that is usually stuffed with minced pork, onion and wood ear mushrooms. I am a huge fan of the garnish on banh cuon and as you can see with this takeaway stand, there’s alot of it. You get two huge pieces of steamed and fried cha lua (pork pate), basil, gia do (beansprouts), fried chopped shallots and a small mound of deep fried bread. I have never had the bread and though it turned out to be a huge gut buster, it soaked up the nuoc cham which made them pretty awesome.
I also grabbed a cafe sua da and it made for a fantastic breakfast to start out the work day. The banh cuon was 16,000 Dong while the coffee was 12,000 Dong.
